Default Armor and Weapon Durability

Well, I tried looking for a topic like this but as far as I know it wasn't adressed. Well this would add a bit of realism to the game. What I was thinking is that each piece of armor and weapon has a durability that lowers per use. A sword in real life dulls and armor in real life is dented and broken. Why not in the game. You could fix the armor and weapons at an armorer. Broken armor has a it's defence halved and a broken weapon cannot be used.
Anyone have any ideas to this?

It's a good idea in theory the problem I see with it is for PvP players. They dont have access to the same NPC's PvE players do. If it's strictly for PvE it would just mean more gold people would have to sink into their armor and weapons. This idea has it's points but I really don't think adding it to the game would be a good idea especially for those who have gone so long without having to repair their items. I dont think this idea would go over so well with the general public.

This will really disrupt the games economy. People will not be able to farm as much money because they have to repair their armors, they will get pissed and quit the game. SO many people quit when the 105 got somewhat nerfed, and this will do no good

Good points. It probably would make it less attractive.

Like a gold sink, only except for people to waste money if they WANT to, everyone, including those who are already short on money, would have to waste money on this... I'd rather not. It'd be a pain in the butt too.

A good thing to remember when considering game design elements is fun over realism. Realism isn't always the best way to do things. I enjoy Guild Wars because I don't have to bother with things like weapon and armor upkeep, because it has a relaxed environment.

yeah it would make the game seam more realistic, but it's not needed people don't like having to spend money things that they don't want.

I don't see people quitting Diablo 2 for that reason. It's not like if you would play for an hour or so that all of a sudden your weapon/armour becomes absolete or heavily damaged. In fact, you could go as far as offering more XP for per kill with damaged weapons for instance. All it needs is a good balance, like skills, and everybody will be happy.

So I don't see how that's such a bad idea. However I highly doubt ANet will implement this in CH2.. if ever. But again, it would not be that of a bad addition if thought out well.
